Band Announcements - Monday, 26 August 2024
We are off to an amazing start to the 2024-2025 School Year. The 7th & 8th Grade Concert Bands performed for the Ludwig 5th Grade students and today half the students will begin trying out instruments! It was also so nice to see so many parents at our Curriculum Night last week to talk about what your children will be learning in school over the next year.
Band Handbook, Calendar Dates, and Curricula
Attached is the 2024-2025 d92 Band Handbook. Please read through it carefully. The Handbook outlines the policies of how the bands operate and what materials are needed for each instrument. Also attached is an abbreviated version of our Band Calendar. Please read over it carefully and mark calendars appropriately to avoid future conflicts. Please subscribe to our d92 Music Google Calendar for all up to date information on rehearsals and events. |
|
If you missed Curriculum night, we invite you to explore the Syllabi for each class. The syllabus highlights grading practices, resources, priority standards, quarterly units of study and contact information. The syllabus and curriculum for each class is linked at the bottom of each of the Grade Level Band Pages.

Jazz Ensemble
Jazz Ensemble
Students, please Sign-Up for Jazz Ensemble if you are interested in participating. Currently rehearsals are scheduled for Tuesday and Thursday from 2:40-3:25pm. Depending on numbers, we may be dividing the band into two groups. If this is the case, 6th Grade Jazz Ensemble would have rehearsal on Mondays from 2:40-3:25pm and 7th & 8th Grade Jazz Ensemble would rehearse on Tuesdays and Thursdays as stated above.
Note: Depending on instrumentation, 6th Grade students may audition for the 7th & 8th Grade Jazz Ensemble if there are seats available. Likewise, we may ask a few 7th & 8th Grade students to assist with the 6th Grade Jazz Ensemble if there are gaps in instrumentation in addition to participating in the 7th & 8th Grade Jazz Ensemble. This will help with meeting the abilities of the student and those students starting secondary instruments.
We will all meet together on Tuesday, September 10th at 2:40pm to begin rehearsals and plan for the Fall.
ILMEA Honors Band and Jazz Band
The Illinois Music Education Association is the professional organization of music teachers for the State of Illinois. In addition to professional development for educators, ILMEA offers many programs for students. Students can submit compositions for the ILMEA Composition Contest (entries due October 15th). Students can also audition for the ILMEA District 1 Honors Ensembles. This is one of the highest honors a middle school musician can receive. Audition Materials were given to 7th and 8th Grade students for Concert Band and Jazz Band (also available in Google Classroom). If a student would like to audition, please email me before Wednesday, September 18th so I can register the student for the audition. Audition videos will be due on October 1st through a Form in Google Classroom.

Advanced and Intermediate Band Classes- please complete the Band Registration Form once you have received your schedule. This will ensure proper channels of communication.
We will not need instruments on the first day of school. Now is a good time to review some of the music from last year and build up some consistency of playing each day. Start with 10-15 minutes and try to do a good warm-up. If some notes don't speak right away, don't fret, your range and tone will return as you begin to rebuild your embouchure muscles.
