ILMEA District 1 Honors Bands
Each year a local Honor Band and Jazz Band is formed that is made up of the best young musicians from the Chicagoland area. The organization that runs the honor band is the Illinois Music Educators Association (ILMEA)
How do I get into the group? You will need to audition on a set of selected music.
When is the audition? The end of September/early October. You can audition for both jazz band and concert band. Transportation is the responsibility of the parent/guardian.
How long does the audition take? About 10-15 minutes
How often does the group meet? If you are selected for the group, you will have one day of practice with a guest conductor and then a concert that afternoon.
Who should try out? Any Oak Prairie band student who is willing to work hard on the audition music.
What is the next step? Audition music was handed out in the Spring of 2016 and part of the audition music was the audition for Symphonic Band & Jazz Band for the 2016-2017 School Year.

- For the CONCERT BAND - The date of the practice and concert is early November from 8:00 am – 5:00 pm.
- For the JAZZ BAND - - The date of the practice and concert is early November from 8:00 am – 5:00 pm.
